Spot, recurring or formal bid: planning a bulk freight inquiry
The right inquiry path depends on how defined the shipment is, whether the lane repeats and whether your organization uses a formal procurement process.
Spot quote for a defined shipment
A spot inquiry fits a specific movement or near-term need. Include the product, origin, destination, quantity and requested pickup timing. Mention flexibility where it exists so the coordinator can review the actual window.
Recurring lane for a repeat pattern
A recurring-lane inquiry is useful when the same origin and destination repeat. Describe expected loads by week or month, timing patterns, seasonal changes and facility requirements. Each lane still requires shipment-specific feasibility, equipment and scheduling review.
Formal bid for a procurement process
Use a bid invitation when your organization is issuing an RFQ, RFP, routing guide or contract opportunity. Provide the scope, lane regions, expected volume, contract period and bid deadline with its time zone.
Choose the path that matches the decision
If you are unsure, start with the lane planner and describe what you know. The form routes spot and recurring opportunities to the quote path and formal procurement opportunities to the bid path.
